Volunteer Opportunities at Millennium
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes - and so do volunteer opportunities! At Millennium, you can volunteer every week. You can volunteer an hour every now and then. You can volunteer in a classroom at school. You can volunteer from home.

Popcorn Day Volunteers Needed
We are always looking for volunteers to help on Popcorn Days...just an hour or two would help so much. Popping popcorn begins in the morning (before school starts) and continues until lunch (and sometimes into lunch-time). There are bags that need to be prepped, filled with popcorn, and boxed for selling. During the lunches, the bags of popcorn are sold to the kids. There is some set-up and cleanup work to do, too. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering. Thank you.
Please help! Art Docents Needed
Millennium Elementary PTO plans to partner with Green River Community College again to present an amazing art program for our students. Art Docent volunteers are recruited from within the school, and are parent, grandparent or community volunteers. The program provides everything a school needs to provide a quality visual arts program in an elementary school. The program loans large Master and Ethnic prints, information packets for each print, workshops on how to present arts to children, how to successfully link the art concepts discussed to an in class art project produced by the children. Our projects are success oriented, adapted to the state Essential Academic Learning Requirements and can be completed in twenty minutes.
Millennium last participated in the Kent Student Art Walk in 2013. Artwork from some of our students was displayed down in local businesses in and around Kent Station. You can visit http://kentwa.gov/arts for more information from the Kent Arts Commission about this and other local activities.
Aminta Granera will be our new Art Docent Program chairperson. However, we still need art docents for each of the classrooms. If you would like to volunteer as an art docent or help keep us involved with the Kent Student Art Walk, please let us know. The last couple of years, we haven't had enough help with the art walk, so our school was not able to participate. Please consider helping to make the art docent program and the art walk successful in the upcoming 2015-16 school year! Thanks!

Service Night at the Kent School District Clothing Bank
These are held at the Kent Phoenix Academy in the former boys' locker room. Volunteers generally provide service from 6:00 - 8:00 pm (arriving around 5:30pm for instructions). Volunteering there is a wonderful way to help support your community. On our last PTO service night we had a few volunteers representing Millennium there...a big thank you for your time!
Scholastic Book Fairs - help wanted
A BIG "thank you" to the volunteers that have helped with our previous Book Fairs. You helped to make them a success! Preparation for our Fall Book Fair will begin shortly after the new school year starts. We are always looking for volunteers! So, if you are interested in helping with decorations, the book fair set-up after school, aiding customers, straightening displays, keeping items stocked, and/or helping with packing up afterward, please contact us. Our Book Fairs are generally scheduled the same week as parent-teacher conferences. Thanks so much for your consideration!
Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in being a Book Fair Co-Chairperson alongside Chairperson, John Phillips. Thank you!

6th Grade Celebration Planning Committee Needed
Dear 5th & 6th Grade Families:
We will need volunteers for this year's 5th & 6th grade celebration in June. This is something for you to think about helping out with. If you are interested in being a chairperson or co-chairperson for this please let us know. If you would like to just volunteer your time or send donations for this activity that would be great, too. People are needed to help serve treats & beverages, as well as, to help with any games/activities. We will also need several adult volunteers to supervise the bouncy house we are hoping to provide for this event.

Legislative Chair Needed
Do you want to learn more about state education and funding policies, and then help inform the Millennium community? This is a great volunteer position for busy parents who can't be at school but want to make a difference at the state and local levels. You can start small with emails to your members about ballot measures. All the information will be sent to you via email.
No experience is needed -- just an hour or so a week will make a big difference to the kids in the Kent School District!
